The Playoff Race Narrows in Women's DI Club
Clubs - Women's Clubs

It’s getting down to the wire for women’s DI club, and this weekend will go a long way to narrowing the path to the national round of 16 in Austin on October 29-30.

Albany's Kristin Bonomo tries to her side into playoff contention this weekend.

ORSU is certainly heading to nationals and unless there’s a coup in their final game against Belmont Shore, which isn’t for another week, they’ll take the top seed. Belmont Shore is in second place currently but they’ve got a difficult weekend playing both Seattle and Emerald City Mudhens on the road. However this double-header pans out will likely determine the final to seeds from CR1. Money is on the home teams to come out of the weekend with wins.

Tempe is also on the road for a double header and takes on Nor Cal, who is favored, and San Francisco, which is also winless.

In CR2, the battle for the final two seeds shakes out this weekend, now that Glendale has secured the top seed. Austin is in second place and faces Chicago North Shore at home. North Shore is in the midst of comeback after defeating Detroit 10-5 on the road, and if they can down the Valkyries, they have a good shot at returning to nationals. The Valkyries will be tough to beat, however, as the Texas team is coming off a rousing 109-5 win over St. Louis.

Chicago is still in the mix as well, but they travel to Glendale for tomorrow’s game. The Raptors posted 99 points against Black Ice last weekend, and did so with several of their stars on the bench. Detroit should get the win against St. Louis this weekend, and that victory would bump their record to 3-2, not without striking distance of a playoff seed.

In CR1, there are three teams vying for the final seed to nationals, now that Atlanta has locked up the number one seed after a 5-0 undefeated streak. Albany, Providence and NOVA all only have one loss under their belt. The Knicks head down to Atlanta this weekend, and last year’s finalist is heavily favored in the bout. Albany and Providence will be a great match, although has the edge playing at home. Finally, winless Village Lions and Boston will go head to head and attempt to get their first wins of the season.
