It’s déjà vu for the Women’s Premier League, as all eight teams revisit last week’s opponent for the fourth round of play.
The only exception of course is the DC Furies v Keystone match. DC didn’t have the luxury of hosting Keystone last weekend, as the field conditions prevented play. Fortunately, this cancellation occurred between two teams that are within a car ride of each other. Keystone has the slight edge in the standings and has an early season win against Beantown to show for it. DC is still looking for its first win of the season. Everyone is eagerly awaiting the kickoff of the San Diego vs Twin Cities match. Last Saturday, the Surfers rallied back to take the 22-17 from the Amazons, and they’ll be looking to repeat the effort this Sunday in Eagan, MN. San Diego leads the WPL’s Red Conference at 3-0 and 15 points. The Amazons earned a bonus point in the loss last Saturday, so a bonus-point win this weekend could propel the hosts into first. Berkeley is the other undefeated team in the league, and no other Blue Conference team has posed much competition yet. Although Beantown put in an impressive second half against the All Blues last weekend, Berkeley still managed to rattle off three tries in the closing six minutes. Berkeley is looking pretty unstoppable this season, and they’re bringing upward of 35 people to Boston this weekend, so depth won’t be an issue. New York will also be in the Minneapolis region, as it prepares for its rematch against the Minnesota Valkyries. New York put up a hefty 56-5 victory last Sunday on Randall’s Island, and the team spread the scoring around fairly well. New York insisted that last weekend’s game was the beginning of the team’s turnaround, and the return of Vanesha McGee will surely help momentum. Even though road victories are tough, New York is favored once again this Sunday. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011 Below is the latest points leaderboard over three games:
