Caravelli's Record
Sevens - USA Sevens Men

The record for Al Caravelli, who stepped down from coaching the USA 7s men’s national team Wednesday.

Numina PhotoCaravelli took over the team in December of 2005.

Leading up to that time, the USA was in a slump. They were 0-16 in their previous three IRB tournaments, mitigated somewhat by a 6-0 performance at the 2005 NAWIRA 7s, and a 2-4 record at the 2005 7s World Cup.

By 2005 the USA was only invited to two IRB tournaments, in Wellington, NZ and the USA. In 2006 they played in three, Wellington, USA and Hong Kong, and the same in 2007. In 2008 they were invited to three more and for the 2008-2009 season played in all eight tournaments.

Following is Caravelli’s record in the IRB Sevens World Series. It does not include the 2008 NAWIRA Championship, which the USA won with a 6-0 record, or the 2009 7s World Cup, where the USA went 1-3:

W L T % Pts IRB Rank Trophies Top 8
2006 1 12 1 .107 0 15 0 0
2007 6 10 0 .375 2 15 1 1
2008 14 18 1 .439 6 13 1 2
2009 15 26 0 .366 20 11 2 3
2010 18 25 0 .419 32 10 1 2
2011 17 26 0 .395 10 12 3 1
2012 7 19 0 .269 23 13 0 0

Trophies means they won the Cup, Plate, Bowl or Shield. Top 8 shows the number of times the USA made the Cup Quarterfinals.
