Rouse Out, Two In for USA Selects
National Teams - USA Men

Two players are joining the USA Selects squad slated to assemble this weekend in San Francisco for the Americas Rugby Championship.

Gearoid McDonald playing for Belvedere in Ireland.Meanwhile SFGG flyhalf Volney Rouse is out due to a knee injury. In his place, Gearoid McDonald, who is a strong-kicking flyhalf in Ireland but was born in the USA, will join the squad.

Head Coach Mike Tolkin has also called up Life University’s Cornelius Dirksen. Usually a halfback, Dirksen has been playing primarily on the wing for Life and has been in excellent form. Dirksen helps bolster a relatively thin deep three for the Selects.

McDonald, first profiled by RUGBYMag.com last month, is a smart young flyhalf who has very good kicking skills – an aspect of play Tolkin desperately wants to improve in the USA setup.

The Selects will assemble this coming weekend in San Francisco, and after a few days of training, will fly up to Victoria, BC for the three-game tournament.
