| Teams Confirmed for Women's International 7s in Vegas |
| Tournaments - USA Sevens Tournament |
|
The tournament will be held as part of the Las Vegas Invitational (www.lvirugby.com), the satellite tournament to the USA 7s men’s IRB event (www.usasevens.com) at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. In the Women’s International 7s competition, the USA will play host to Japan, Canada, The Netherlands, France, and Brazil. In addition, Canada and the USA will field developmental teams – the Maple Leafs and the Stars & Stripes, respectively. Pool A consists of USA, France, Japan, and the Maple Leafs. Pool B will be Canada, The Netherlands, Brazil, and Stars & Stripes. On Feb 10, pool play will be held at the Star Nursery fields adjacent to Sam Boyd Stadium. On Day Two, the quarterfinals will be held at Star Nursery, along with the Plate semis. The Cup Semis will be held in Sam Boyd Stadium in front of what is expected to be a huge crowd during a break in the action of the USA 7s men’s tournament. On Sunday, the Cup Final and consolation matches will be held in Sam Boyd Stadium as well. Ever since the USA 7s began holding a women’s tournament in their satellite invitationals (the San Diego Invitatrional and now the Las Vegas Invitational), a Women’s International 7s has been held. Canada won the tournament in 2011, defeating the Netherlands in the final, while an unlucky USA team (which beat Canada in Pool Play) took the Plate. In 2010 China defeated the USA in the final, while in 2009 in San Diego the USA took the title from South Africa. |
