The registration deadline for the Girls High School National Invitational Tournament (NIT) (May 18-19, Racine, Wisc.) has been extended to February 1. Interested teams must fill out the registration form linked here, and also send in their deposit, in order to secure their spot in the 24-team, three-division championship.
The National Girls’ Coaches Committee (NGCC) announced the NIT in late November, and some important evolutions have occurred since then. Namely, the field has rounded out nicely with high-caliber clubs from around the country. The majority of last year’s national championship teams has committed to the two-day event, and will be joined by standout clubs like Summit (Colo.) that had stepped away from the USA Rugby-run event or were excluded due to the eight-team limitation.
While having the country’s best teams at the NIT is a priority, the NGCC reiterates the purpose of the three divisions. The most competitive teams will be placed in division one, intermediate teams in division two, and developing sides in division three. The separation accommodates the various motivations for teams’ attendance: from vying for the national title, to simply enjoying the experience of a national tournament.
Another important evolution has occurred with the venue. The committee has finalized a contract with RASA’s SCOR soccer complex, located in Racine, just south of Milwaukee. The relocation offers better hotel deals and more convenient travel to/from Milwaukee and Chicago airports. Check out the complex here.
