The Northeast 7s season gets going this weekend with the Jo Jo Moore 7s at the New York Military Academy.

The Olympic Club is not new to 7s, as the Winged-O was a mainstay at 7s Nationals throughout much of the this century’s first decade. But O-Club hasn’t been back to Nationals since 2008. The first qualifier tournament of the summer club sevens season kicks off Saturday in Richmond, Va. as the Richmond Lions host the Monk Vaughan 7s.

Some thoughts on the team, and where it’s going after Mike Tolkin has made his selections for Saturday:

It was nearly four and a half years ago when Kieran Crowley addressed his first Canadian team on a patchy soccer pitch in Kanata, in Ottawa's west end.  It was his inaugural training session in Canada - after a lifetime of involvement with the New Zealand All Blacks and provincial rugby in his native country.  That day, he may have wondered if he had gotten more than he bargained for. 

Tony Pacheco?

Yes, Tony Pacheco. Why not? The coach of the Central Washington University 7s team is now the coach of the Collegiate All American 7s team. He has coached CWU to several excellent results in recent times – and, remember, college 7s is still in its infancy.

The USA Men’s National Team is expected to unveil a more exciting style of play when they play Canada this coming weekend.

Center or flyhalf? That’s a big question around Roland Suniula, and a question that quite possibly doesn’t have an easy answer.

Tony Pacheco has been named the USA Rugby All American 7s Coach.

Pacheco helped coach Central Washington to two Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference 7s titles, as well as an LVI title in 2011, a 4^th place finish in the 2011 CRC, and a 2^nd place finish in the USA Rugby national tournament.

Pacheco will coach the team at the USA trials this summer.
