Pool A of the Women's All Star 7s Championship is one round in, and the Pacific Coast and Northeast have made early cases to advance to tomorrow's semifinals.
The Grizzlies got off to a raring start, as they overwhelmed the South with a 57-0 rout.
A truly all-star lineup comprises the Grizzlies roster, led by Berkeley coaches Laura Cabrera and Brandon Sparks. The All Blues make up the majority of the squad, with well known names like Nathalie Marchino, Vix Folayan and Phoebe Boone leading the charge.
But it was Seattle's Caroline White, about whom Cabrera was particularly excited to add to the Grizzlies team, who led the team in tries and points scored.
The scrappy scrumhalf got the scoring rolling a minute into the match and didn't take her foot off the gas for the entirety of the game. White scored three tries and slotted six conversions for 27 points.
Irene and Elaine Gardner combined for four tries, two apiece. San Juanita Moreno and Eagle 7s resident Kelly Griffin added five-pointers as well.
The Northeast followed with a 21-7 victory over Southern California. The Nessies took a 7-0 lead thanks to a converted try from Boston Belles duo Danielle Miano and Jessica Peterson.
Katie Dowty took over for the remaining 14 points, as the Eagle 7s resident touched down two tries and conversions.
With time winding down, Mollie Martin (San Diego) prevented a shutout with a try that she converted.
The Northeast will take on the South in round two, while the Pacific Coast sees SoCal.
