Rugby player Gerry Loehr, lately of the Hartford U23 rugby program, took down a suspected purse snatcher on a Manhattan street.

According the reports Loehr was having lunch near where he works and saw a man running down the street with a purse.

Hearing calls of "Stop thief!" Loehr sprang into action, leaving his lunch behind and tackled the suspect.

“It was a good hit,” Loehr told 1010 WINS radio. “It was just like out of a movie – the purse went 20 feet in the air, everyone’s surrounding you and I just got on him and held him till cops came.”

Loehr said the suspect looked up at him from the sidewalk and complained about his asthma.

Loehr passed up the perhaps too-obvious Lord of the Flies retort and said, instead, "Well, you shouldn’t have been running." 

The restaurant where Loehr was eating, the Penny Farting on 3rd Avenue, paid for his lunch.
