Teams readying for the USA 7s Collegiate Rugby Championship June 4-5 at PPL Park in Philadelphia have found a perfect warmup tournament in the Subaru 7s in Wilmington, Del.

Now in its 10th year, the Subaru 7s is run by the Delaware Rugby Foundation (www.derugbyfoundation.org),  a non-profit organization that provides seed money to all middle and high school teams in Delaware.

Last year was the first time the event added men’s and women’s brackets (with cash prizes for the winners). And this year, five teams set for the CRC will also be attending: Army, Temple, Penn State, Navy and North Carolina.

The tournament is at a state park in Wilmington Delaware, with three regulation-size grass fields.  Portions of the games will be filmed by NBC and aired on the local channel afterwards.  Representatives from USA Sevens LLC will be in attendance to watch some of the CRC teams.

In addition, several non-CRC teams, including locals the University of Delaware, will participate.

In the women’s bracket, Navy, Temple and Penn State are all slated to participate in the CRC in Philadelphia, and will warm up at the Subaru 7s.

100% of the money raised by this tournament helps to start youth rugby teams and two scholarships to incoming men and women to the University of Delaware.  This past spring the foundation was able to start five after-school programs at troubled middle school programs in Wilmington thanks to money raised.
