Northeastern punched its ticket to College Station, Texas for the USA Rugby College 7s National Championships Saturday. The Huskies went 6-0 at the East Coast Rugby Conference 7s tournament in Amesbury, Mass. to secure an automatic bid.

Northeastern needed extra time to oust Middlebury 12-7 in the final, just two weeks after the Huskies fell to Middlebury in 15s. Northeastern’s Shan Tykinski sprinted along the touch line for a long-range try to clinch the win.

Both Northeastern and Middbelbury escaped pool play undefeated. The Huskies beat inaugural ECRC 7s champ Boston College 19-0, UConn 38-5 and UMass 29-10 in one group. The Panthers downed Albany 38-5, Southern Connecticut 35-10 and AIC 38-19 in the other.
