The St. Mary's 7s team won and finished 2nd at the St. Mary's collegiate 7s tournament Saturday.

Both the St. Mary's A side and B side were 4-0 before the championship match, and faced each other in the final. They decided not to play that final and, officially, St. Mary's A took the tournament by forfeit.

UC Davis looked good in going 3-2, losing only to St. Mary's A and St. Mary's B. Sacramento State lost two close games in pool play but made the semifinals after beating both Santa Clara A and B.

It was a very hot day in Moraga so the afternoon matches were a true test for all those involved, including athletes, coaches, referees and medical staff.

"Our goal was to have a great warm up tournament for what is to come with the next three tournaments in Cal Poly [Oct. 6], Stanford [Oct. 13], Santa Barbara [Oct. 27] and the California Qualifier November 10 at Cal Poly and I believe we met that goal," said tournament director Tony Samaniego.
