BYU defeated the University of Utah 24-12 in the final of the BYU 7s to put the rest of the country on notice that the Cougars are serious about 7s this fall.
BYU won Pool A while Utah swept through Pool B.
Pool C was a pool of 2nd teams, and BYU's 2nds were the top team there.
Meanwhile perhaps the shock performers of the day were Dixie State. Coached by former Highland High School assistant Jeremy Lister, Dixie beat Northern Colorado and Weber State and really pushed Utah.
BYU was led by scrumhalf Shaun Davies and center Hoseki Kofe, who were both very difficult to contain, while Lopeti and Tonata Lauti were big attackers for Utah, with Danny James, as usual, playing well.
All of the teams were extremely physical and the games were consistently exciting to watch.
