| Sooner Cupboard Isn't Bare Without Mokate |
| Sevens - Collegiate Sevens |
|
The Oklahoma Sooners won't have capped 7s Eagle Taylor Mokate at the Collegiate Rugby Championship, as he is nursing a torn ACL. Still, the Sooners have enough talent to be one of the CRC's surprises. Arrynn Wilkinson is perhaps the most rugby-seasoned of that talent. A fullback and utility backline player for the Sooners' 15s squad, Wilkinson is a dangerous runner with a smooth pass and plenty of experience, and he's been a mainstay on the West Collegiate All-Stars. Also well-seasoned is Kelton Miller. Prior to joining the Sooner gridiron squad this spring as a punter, he was OU's regular selection at flyhalf. He too possesses a smooth pass and plenty of experience, also adding a booming boot. Filling in for Miller at flyhalf much of this spring was Zac Givens, a former Sooner wide receiver. He suited up for Bob Stoops in OU's loss in the 2009 National Title game. Unlike some of the crossovers who'll be on hand in Philadelphia, Givens has a full season of rugby under his belt. Another crossover athlete booting up for Oklahoma is Joe Bach, who spent two years with the Sooner wrestling team. Oklahoma roster: The Collegiate Rugby Championship, June 4-5 at PPL Park in Philadelphia, will be aired live on NBC both days. Irish punk band The Dropkick Murphy's will be performing a free post-match concert at PPL Park June 4. For more info, visit usasevenscrc.com. |
