The Midwest represented well on day one of Cape Fear Sevens, with each of their teams winning their respective pools. 1823 defeated the Kenya Exiles, Cape Fear Blue and Georgia All-Stars en route to a 3-0 record. The Chicago Lions downed the Pacific Barbarians and and the South and Florida All-Stars to go undefeated, as well. 

The Barbarians finished second in Pool A with a 2-1 record, as did the Kenya Exiles in Pool B. South finished right behind Pacific, and Cape Fear behind the Exiles.

All eight teams advance to the Sunday quarterfinals.
