Teams to Play Semi in Honor of Grieving Family
Colleges - Men's DII College

The Towson University v. Salisbury DII college semifinal Friday will be played in hnor of the wife of a longtime Maryland rugby man.

Brenda BrewingtonBrenda Brewington, who was married to Will Brewington, a fixture in Maryland rugby for over 30 years, was shot and killed by a homeless man at the church she worked at in Ellicott City, Md. May 3.

Will Brewington played in the Maryland area starting in the 1970s, when he was known as Wheels for his speed.

“To this day, he is the fastest player I have ever seen on a pitch,” said Bill Ripples who played both with Brewington and with current Towson Head Coach Don Stone.

Struck by the loss to their extended rugby family, and especially by the brutal, sudden, and public manner of Brenda Brewington’s death, the Towson and Salisbury teams quickly agreed to play the game in honor of the Brewington family.

The news of Brenda Brewington's death spread quickly through the rugby community, and her memorial service was packed with friends from her church, and those from rugby who knew her or knew Will Brewington.
