Since our last update, two new teams have qualified, and several others have gotten close.
MID-ATLANTIC The semifinals, April 14-15 in Pittsburgh, Pa., will pit the only two remaining National Champions against each other in Radford (2003 & 2008) and Salisbury (2004). Towson and Georgetown meet in the other, in a rematch of a Potomac semifinal which Towson won 23-13 back in November. First place out of MARFU draws the Dixie Conference champion, and the second-place team gets Boston University, champs of the Northeast. Towson vs. Georgetown DIXIE Sewanee vs. Univ. Alabama-Birmingham MIDWEST Northern Illinois finished second in the Midwest playoffs, but through a Midwest rule, UW-Milwaukee was allowed to challenge them. UW-Milwaukee lost to Midwest champs UW-Whitewater and beat fourth-place Ohio, just like Northern Illinois. Therefore, the Panthers earned a challenge match, which they won 31-27 Saturday. For winning, they advance to the Sweet 16 as the Midwest’s second seed and will face West champ Lindenwood April 28 in Cottage Grove, Wisc. SOUTHERN CONFERENCE UNC-Charlotte traveled to Boone, NC and beat Appalachian State 24-22, but the bonus point was enough to push Appalachian State to the semifinals as the top team out of the West. UNC-Greensboro suffered a loss to Coastal Carolina, 42-27, but also secured the bonus point that they needed to move on as the East’s second seed. The conference semis will be played at Elon University April 14-15. Appalachian State vs UNC-Greensboro SOUTH PACIFIC COAST Sierra is the top seed out of Northern California, having beaten Santa Rosa in league play. Utah Valley is the Utah champ, and Idaho State is the Pacific Northwest champ. Sierra vs. Idaho State SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Either way, it will be either Cal State Long Beach or SBCC representing SoCal against the Pacific Coast champion in the Sweet 16 Palo Alto, Calif. |
