The University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) has officially accepted an invitation to join the SWC beginning with the 2013-2014 season. "UTSA participated in the SWC 7s tournament this season and proved it is ready to take the next step to improving its rugby program by officially joining the SWC," said SWC commissioner Clayton Jewett. "We in the SWC are impressed by the integrity of their program, their coaches, and their players, and that was a deciding factor in asking UTSA to become a conference member." Nicholas Stephens, the UTSA team President, told the SWC, “We are excited and look forward to competing with an entirely new schedule with the established teams of the SWC.” The current SWC member teams are Houston, North Texas, Rice, St. Edward's, Texas, TCU and Texas State. "On behalf of the SWC, I welcome UTSA as our newest conference member," said Jewett. "Shayne Roberson has done an excellent job of coaching and guiding the team, and the SWC looks forward to a long relationship with UTSA that will be beneficial to not only the SWC and UTSA, but also rugby in Texas." |
