There’s a full slate of DI-AA matches this weekend, with eight conferences in action. There’s also a mighty big non-conference game happening Friday in Florida. That non-conference game is between No. 7 Florida and No. 21 Florida State. It’s implications could loom large when it comes time for the College Competitions Committee to hand out its three at-large bids to the Sweet 16. If either team didn’t earn an automatic bid by winning their respective conference, a win Friday would look really good on their resume, especially if you consider Florida State already has a preseason victory over LSU. The headliner in the Atlantic Coast Rugby League feature North Carolina playing Virginia Tech. North Carolina is hoping to prove its not taken a step back after finishing second in the conference last year, and the Hokies are looking to justify them finishing second in the preseason ACRL coaching poll. The next biggest game pits Arkansas against Missouri in the Heart of America. Whoever wins will become the favorite for the HOA title and will likely earn a spot in the Top 25. Northern California is shaping up to be the most competitive conference in the country, as close games have been the norm so far this season. NorCal has the only conference game which pits ranked opponents against one another this weekend, with Sacramento State taking on Santa Clara. If Sac State wins, it will become the leader to take the league, and it’ll bolster its at-large bid resume.
