Oregon State and Eastern Washington both recorded their first victories of the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference Saturday.

OSU defeated Simon Fraser University in an impressive display, 39-0. Captain Zach Heath was the big star with three tries.

The Beaver Ruggers stuck to their game plan by keeping long periods possesion within their forward pack, which resulted in their forwards scoring six of the team's seven tries.

Tighthead prop Jake Helbling recorded a double to go with Heath's three, and flanker Mike Gamm added one. The scoring was rounded out by a try from inside center Robert Kennedy and two conversions from Nick Cutrell.

Cutrell, a freshman flyhalf for OSU, may have struggled in the wind with hyis conversion kicks, but his kicking from the hand for space was effective and kept SFU pinned in their own half.

Heath was player of the game and led from the front.

Meanwhile Eastern Washington got 19 points from Eric Populus with two tries, three conversions and a penalty as he led EWU to a 24-13 win over Washington. Populus was named NCRC Player of the Week, and set a new single-game scoring record for the fledgling competition.

Oregon State moves to 1-0, while EWU improves to 1-1.

This coming weekend is the busiest so far in the NCRC as 1-0 Oregon State is at 0-1 Western Washington.

Washington State (1-0) visits University of Washington (0-2) and Central Washington (1-1) visits 0-1 University of Oregon.
