Saturday's Rugby match between Davenport and Miami (Ohio), two of the top teams in Rugby D1-AA, will be broadcast live through the Davenport Athletic Network (DAN) at dupanthers.com. The match is set to begin at 1:00pm with the video broadcast starting 15 minutes prior.
"I think it's pretty cool that we are able to have live video at DU. I think one of the biggest benefits is that parents can watch their kids play if they can't make it to the game," said Rugby head coach Kruger Van Biljon. "It's definitely a step in the right direction not just for the Sports Information Department but for DU as a whole. It also might help to create interest from other parts in the USA for future recruits."
With Davenport, Miami, and Bowling Green all entering this weekend 3-0 and tied for 1st in the league standings, this game will go a long way in determining the outcome of the conference.
"I think this game will live up to all expectations. Miami is a solid side with talented players and coaching staff. They have been dominant this season and I'm sure they will want to stay undefeated. They have a couple of guys that can turn games upside down and a forward pack that can move around."
Davenport and Miami enter with the two most explosive offenses in the league. In three conference games Davenport has scored 209 points while allowing only 18 points. On the other hand, Miami has scored 191 points and allowed 88 points.
Davenport and Miami have also played a couple similar opponents in conference play with Purdue and Indiana. Playing both games on the road, Davenport defeated Purdue 82-13 and Indiana 52-5. Comparatively, Miami played both games at home. After pulling out a high scoring 54-47 win over Indiana, the Reds destroyed Purdue 92-13.
"We will need to execute all parts of our game perfectly. One mistake against a side like Miami Of Ohio will lead to points against you. We will need to be disciplined as they have a kicker that can turn penalties into points from anywhere in our half. We will also have to not just match their aggression but use our own aggression to dominate certain phases. We had a taste of how aggressive they will and can get in the 7's tournament and I'm sure we won't be surprised this time around."
Davenport and Miami (Ohio) will kick-off at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 22 at the DU Turf Field. Live video will be available 15 minutes prior to the start time. LIVE VIDEO LINK
