Huns Clear HARC Hurdle
Clubs - Men's DI Clubs

The Austin Huns improved to 2-0 with a convincing 37-13 defeat of HARC Saturday in Austin. The Huns led 18-3 at halftime and 32-3 with about 25 minutes left in the match.

“We came out in the second half and got two converted tries in the first 15 minutes and kind of salted it away,” said Austin Huns coach Kirk Tate. “We actually let up a little bit after that.”

Inside center Hugh Stitt scored all but five of the Huns’ points Saturday, dotting down three tries and slotting three penalties and a three conversions. Also standing out for Austin was openside flanker Pete Kinicki.

“He had and awesome game. Was all over the pitch doing the graft work and really played pretty well,” Tate said.

Though HARC lost just narrowly to the Austin Blacks, the only other 2-0 team in Texas, Tate says his team won’t get a bloated sense of confidence.

“We were real clear with the guys, don’t look at the scores from last week and draw any conclusions. You’ve got to assume that whoever we’re playing is better prepared than they were last week and is going to come to take us down,” he said.

“I think that was important for us in winning today and it’s an attitude we need to keep with the team and keep harping on as we go through the season – try not to get too pleased with ourselves.”

The Huns now get a week off before facing Fort Worth, while HARC tries to get its first win of the season against the Dallas Reds Saturday in Houston.
