What's On Tap in Men's Clubs This Weekend
Clubs - Men's DI Clubs

Every week features important games in Southern California, but this week has a big one in particular – OMBAC traveling to Belmont Shore.

Belmont has won Southern California the last three years and OMBAC has finished second the last two. Belmont Shore is riding an 18-game win streak in SoCal play. The last team to knock them off was OMBAC, in February of 2011.

Both enter the contest 1-0. Belmont does so after squeaking out a 12-8 win over Santa Monica, a game in which Belmont didn’t score a single try. OMBAC won its league opener big, 55-19, over Los Angeles.

If there’s a time to upset Belmont Shore, it might be right now, while the club may still be resting guys like Ed Pitts, Peter Dahl and Eric Duechle.

Another potentially telling contest features the Old Aztecs making their DI debut against Santa Monica. Santa Monica proved legitimacy against the defending DI National Champs last week, and the Old Aztecs can do the same with a good showing here.

Northern California has just one game on the docket – the Bay Barbarians at San Francisco Golden Gate. SFGG started the season with a big bang last week, crushing 2012 Super League runners-up Old Puget Sound Beach. The Barbarians could be in for a long game. Olympic Club's scheduled match with the EPA Bulldogs has been forfeited.

In Texas, HARC at the Austin Huns is probably the marquee match-up. Houston is improved after adding a couple of All Americans and the Huns are confident following a big win over the Dallas Harlequins.

The Woodlands at Dallas will be interesting, too. It’s the first game of the season for the Reds, while The Woodlands are fresh off a close win over Fort Worth.

SoCal DII play also begins this week, while Florida continues to be the only DII league in the South going.
