On Saturday the New York Athletic Club defeated Eastern Ontario 32-29 in a friendly match.
The defending, and, as it turns out, last Super League champions ran out to a commanding lead thanks to some solid work from Patrick Fiffe and Alistair McFarland. New USA Selects callup Chris Chapman combined well with scrumhalf Mike Petri in the halfback combo, while Rutgers product Kirk Hamilton played well at prop.
Ryan Diehl, Kyle Granby, Brian Doyle, and Petri all scored tries, with lock Nick Civetta, another new USA Selects callup, scored two. Ron Johnson converted the first try but no more conversions came of that.
Eastern Ontario scored two tries, both converted, and kicked five penalties.
NYAC subbed liberally in the second half, when the Canadian team mounted a comeback that just fell short.
