Atlanta Opens New Rugby Facility
Clubs - Men's DI Clubs

From the Georgia Dome to Turner Field to the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, The Atlanta metro area is known for its world-class sports venues. On Saturday, it will open another - this time for rugby.

The complex, located near the Cascade Road and I-285 interchange, is one of only a handful of international-size rugby fields in the country. It is the new home for The Atlanta Old White Rugby Football Club (RFC).

Located at 1035 Fairburn Road, Atlanta, GA 30331, the pitch has generated interest from USA Rugby because of its proximity to downtown Atlanta and Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.  The club hopes the location will be attractive for high-level games.

The venue was paid for in full by the Atlanta Old White RFC Old Boys.

The Atlanta Sports Council, an arm of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, looks to include this complex in their package in promoting Atlanta as the Sports Capital of the United States.

The Atlanta Rugby Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) whose purpose is to promote the sport of rugby throughout Metro Atlanta. This includes boys and girls in middle, high school and college as well as post-collegiates who reside in Atlanta.

Saturday's opening events include:

  • An Old Boys touch sevens tournament at 10:30 am
  • Official opening ceremonies at 12:30 pm
  • Atlanta Old White RFC vs. intra-city rival High Country at 2 pm.

The Atlanta Old White Rugby Football Club is committed to playing the highest level of rugby in the United States.  With a recent national finals appearance, and numerous South Championships in 15′s and 7′s including D1 2009 South Champions and 2009 7′s South Champions, Old White has proven to be one of the top clubs in the United States.
