Sacramento Lions Hosting Clinic
Clubs - Men's DI Clubs

Ifereimi Tawake, the new head coach for the Sacramento Lions, will be hosting a skills clinic in Sacramento Aug. 18th. Tawake will oversee and run the all-day clinic with help from his coaching staff.
Tawake has been in Sacramento with the Lions since July and played professional rugby in Fiji for 20 years before transitioning into coaching in 2000. His coaching credits include a first time win for Fiji in both the Epson Cup in 2001 and the 2009 Pacific Rugby Cup. He has earned a selector position for Fiji’s national team, along with a level 3 Accreditation Coaching Certificate, the highest level of coaching in Rugby.
Lions Manager, Aaron Frederick, is excited to be able to offer this high level of experience and skill to the Sacramento rugby community and hopes other players in California will take advantage of the opportunity to work with and learn from Tawake.
“In the few weeks that Tawake has been working with our team we have experienced a level of training and coaching techniques unmatched by any coach I have been involved with in the past,” said Frederick. “This clinic is a great opportunity for other players and teams to learn and benefit from Tawake’s experience and insights about rugby.”
The clinic will focus on core rugby skills that apply to both 7s and 15s formats. Emphasis will be placed on skill development and strategy on both the individual and team level. The importance of basic skills, such as passing, catching and ball retention will be stressed, in addition to more advanced skills such as varying the style of the game depending on an opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. Players can expect to receive individual feedback and suggestions throughout the course of the clinic. There will be a touch rugby session following the clinic to allow players to apply the skills and strategies being taught.
The clinic is priced at $20 per player or $250 for a team of 15 players. For more information about the clinic, please visitwww.sacramentolionsrugby.org or contact Aaron Frederick at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
