Austin Wins Playoff Tuneup
Clubs - Men's DI Clubs

On Saturday evening, the Austin Blacks and New Orleans RFC met in The Woodlands in Texas a battle of undefeated DI teams, as both try to prepare themselves for the playoffs.

The Texas champion Blacks defeated the South winners 19-7. Austin scored all three of their tries in the first half, with backs Dave Comerford, Dave Goss, and Tane Jericevich all touching down. Jericevich also added two conversions.

New Orleans dominated the scrum early until Austin figured out what they were doing wrong. But out in loose play Austin held sway, with flanker Alex Sarroff covering all sorts of territory as Man of the Match.

With the Blacks controlling possession in the first 40, for the most part, they ran out to a 19-0 lead.

New Orleans rebounded somewhat in the second half and put Austin under all sorts of pressure. The Blacks defense was solid, but New Orleans did score once.

Austin is into the national Round of 16, after Boulder forfeited their CR2 playoff game. IN place of that match Austin will face touring English side Lloyds of London RFC. Meanwhile, New Orleans prepares to host the Chicago Lions in the Round of 32.
