The Sacramento Lions and EPA Bulldogs both remain undefeated in Northern California DI league action as they recorded victories Saturday.

Sacramento Lions faced the East Palo Alto Razorbacks today and came away 58-5 winners.

The Razorbacks came out strong, looking to make some controlled plays and used the boot for field advantage.  This kept the Lions deep in their 22 much of the early half however as both team’s forwards punched the ball it left the outside open. Brett Willis broke away on the outside to score the first points of what was many more to come for the Lions.   The overall pace of the game was slowed as the referee was quick on the whistle giving little advantage time for either team.  This forced both squads to adjust to set pieces and lineouts.

The Razorbacks were effective with both as their strong group of forwards lifted and drove the ball.  Despite their determination the Lions found momentum hitting holes across the field with Joel Scott and John Hopoi scoring.  The Razorbacks defensive prevented several other Lions opportunities.  At halftime Sacramento was up by 22 points.

The second half opened with the Razorbacks defense right back at it with one player getting a yellow card for an intentional knock-on. This allowed Garrett Hawley a chance to find a gap and post more points for the Lions.  The Razorbacks were then able to kept composure and their forwards broke through to pick up the first score for the team, much to the delight of the crowd.  But after that the Lions surged on. Michael Fotofili, Dennis Saafi, Brett Willis, Seremaia Tavai, and Matt Carlson all scored as the Lions ran away with it.

The Bulldogs barely eked out San Mateo 23-21 to keep their 4-0 record while Olympic Club rebounded from their back-to-back losses to beat San Francisco Golden Gate 34-17. Rikus Pretorius played outside center and was excellent, earning man of the match honors.

The Sacramento Capitals forfeited against the Bay Barbarians.
