New Orleans made another bold statement this weekend in their first DI league season, defeating former DII rivals Tampa 34-6.
“We had a lot of territory and possession, and I was pleased,” said New Orleans Head Coach Jerry Malina.
Winning on the road isn’t easy in the South, and it’s possible the top team could emulate the top teams in the Midwest, and win with a 6-2 record (sweeping at home and splitting on the road).
New Orleans is well on their way to accomplishing that as they look ahead to the rest of the league season after the winter break. Now at 3-0, NOLA has won twice at home and once on the road, and the club has defeated three of their four league opponents (they haven’t played Charlotte).
Patrick Kennedy, Bobby Johns, Ross Bellaci, and Jarrett Falcon all scored tries for New Orleans, while Chance Doyle claimed the rest with his boot.
New Orleans also sent their DIII club on the road the same weekend. They won 34-17 in Tallahassee.
