USA Rugby CEO Nigel Melville has reportedly expressed interest in the same job within the Rugby Football Union (England). The job became open last week when former CEO John Steele was relieved of his duties.
Melville, a former English captain, sent a Twitter message to RFU council member Andrew Sarek saying, "I will apply for the ceo job, its what I have been doing for the last 4 years."
Hours earlier, Melville referenced a CEO job in a separate conversation on Twitter with RFU Tournament and Competitions Director Terry Burwell, saying, "Meliville for CEO then."
That came after Melville tweeted to Sarek, seemingly referencing the CEO job:
"it was probably the last opportunity I would get to work for the rfu, perfect timing etc..but not to be..very sad - onward!"
He then tweeted this to Sarek shortly after:
"For the record they spoke to me, was on the short list, withdrew when I heard it was SCW's - so why bother.."
It appears "they" is a reference to the RFU and "SCW" to Sir Clive Woodward, former England and British & Irish Lions player and coach.
