The USA Women 7s team is nearly 12 hours away from their opening match at the China 7s, the third stop on the IRB Women Sevens World Series (WSWS). The Eagles are currently ranked sixth, trailing fourth-place South Africa and Russia by two points.
The tournament showcases the six core teams - New Zealand, Australia, England, USA, Canada and Netherlands (listed in rank order) - hosts China, Japan and South America qualifier Brazil. Three debutantes augment the field, including Tunisia, Ireland and Fiji, which joins the USA in pool C. The Eagles begin their Guangzhou campaign tonight (Friday) against the Asian 7s champs, kicking off at 10:22 p.m. (EST).
Two-and-a-half hours later, the USA will play China at 12:44 a.m. (EST) Saturday morning, and finish against England, easily the Eagles' most difficult opponent, at 3:04 a.m. (EST) Saturday morning.
In the 12-team tournament, the top teams in each of the three pools will move onto the Cup bracket. The remaining two spots in the Cup competition will go to the first- and second-best third-place teams.
