Serevi Camp Partners with World Rugby Shop
Colleges - Camps & Clinics

Seattle - Serevi Rugby today officially announced a partnership with World Rugby Shop, the first phase of which has World Rugby Shop sponsoring all of this summer’s Serevi Rugby youth camps and its August 2011 Serevi Rugby Academy with Gordon Tietjens. World Rugby Shop will provide Serevi Rugby camps with youth kits, balls and hard goods and provide co-branded youth and Serevi Rugby Academy apparel.

“World Rugby Shop is proud to partner with Serevi Rugby on rugby development, all the way from beginning training right through to elite play,” says World Rugby Shop CEO Bernard Frei. “As a company, we have long been committed to growing the youth game and to supporting promising players, and Serevi Rugby programming – at both youth and elite levels – shares these goals. With a legendary player and coach like Waisale Serevi at the helm, these camps promise to be engaging and highly instructional. This is precisely the kind of programming World Rugby Shop wants to support.”

Serevi Rugby’s three- to four-day rugby youth camps have run in Bellevue (July 5-8), South Seattle (July 11-14), West Seattle (July 18-20), and North Seattle (July 25-28). Serevi Rugby youth camps are aimed at introducing players to rugby while focusing on fun and fitness. Participants are segmented by age and ability, with players under age 14 playing non-contact rugby and those over 14 playing according to standard International Rugby Board (IRB) rules. Serevi Rugby Director of Coaching and Old Puget Sound Beach Head Coach Evan Haigh coached alongside Serevi, and were joined by a group of experienced assistant coaches.

The August 14-21, 2011 Serevi Rugby Academy will be run at Starfire Sports and is targeted at promising rugby players ages 18-24. New Zealand All Blacks Coach Gordon Tietjens will coach alongside Serevi and Haigh. Players that have already signed up include Utah’s Don Pati, Notre Dame’s Christopher Pesigan, Central Washington’s Tim Stanfill, and Arizona’s Peter Tiberio, as well as USA 7’s players Miles Craigwell and Nu’u Punimata.

USA Sevens National Coach Al Caravelli has stated his intent to scout talent at the Academy’s August 20th tournament. Serevi and Tietjens intend to run the camp as they would for their national teams, and focus on fitness, core skills and decision making.
