World Cup Qualifier to be Streamed Live
International - Rugby World Cup

The first leg of the Americas 2 Rugby World Cup 2015 qualifier between Uruguay and USA in Montevideo this Saturday will be streamed live and free on Coverage starts at 15:00 EDT / Noon PDT.

The winner over the two legs will qualify for Rugby’s pinnacle tournament as Americas 2 and join 1995 and 2007 champions South Africa, Samoa, Scotland and the Asian qualifier in Pool B.

For the loser, the dream remains alive but qualification will be achieved the hard way as they will need to progress through the repechage system by first taking on the runner-up of the Asian 5 Nations with a place in Pool A eventually up for grabs.

The second leg, in Atlanta, Ga., on 29 March, will be shown live on Universal Sports.

Uruguay Names Game Day Squad to Face USA
International - Rugby World Cup

Los Teros of Uruguay have announced their game-day squad for Saturday's World Cup Qualifier against the USA.

Head Coach Pablo Lemoine selects an experienced team, and it is expected this will be the same unit that travels to Atlanta for the second leg.

Key for Los Teros is the tight five, and Lemoine, himself a former Uruguay prop, has selected a hardend group of front-rowers in props Francisco Jimenez, Rodolfo De Mula, Mario Sagario, Oscar Durán, and Alejo Corral, and with hookers Nicolás Klappenbach and Arturo Avalo.

In the second row Los Teros boast some height, for once, Mathias Palomeque, Cristofer Soares de Lima, and Santiago Vilaseca.

The backs are perhaps a little more experienced, with Agustín Ormaechea and Felipe Berches expected to be the halfback hinge. Joaquín Prada and Andrés Vilaseca anchor the midfield.

Of the 23 players, 18 play their rugby in Uruguay, with one in Argentina, two in France, and two in Italy.

The starting 15 will be announced later.

In response to the announcement, VisitEngland’s Chief Executive James Berresford said:
“The announcement of the official fifteen Overseas Travel Agents (OTAs) so far in advance of the tournament in 2015 is great news for England’s tourism.  Over 400,000 international fans are expected to travel to the country for the competition and it is important that they can start planning and dreaming about their trips now, not only to secure tickets to specific games but also to plan a full itinerary to explore and enjoy England to the full while they are here.

With confirmed teams from major international markets including Australia, Canada, Italy, Ireland and France as well as South Africa and New Zealand, there is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of England in these key markets. In addition, the planned cultural events leading up to and during the tournament, as well as live sites and the creation of dedicated ‘fan zones’ will undoubtedly provide an outstanding and memorable visitor experience.

We at VisitEngland are committed to working hand in glove with England Rugby 2015 and the host destination management organisations, venues and local authorities to deliver the best possible experience for all visitors (spectators, media and teams).  Our integrated marketing strategy is designed to ensure that the tourism opportunities are exploited to the max to encourage longer stays, resulting in greater tourism spend in the destinations.

We look forward to working closely with the OTAs to ensure they have everything they need to inspire their clients to book full and varied itineraries to get as much out of enjoying the momentous tournament and England as possible.”

Full details regarding the tournament ticketing program, including prices and on-sale dates, will be announced via

The USA has not secured its sport in the Rugby World Cup, and will need to beat Uruguay in their March series to do so.
