If the rationale for objecting to performing the haka is that it is not being "performed" by those from NZ or Fiji or islanders, then take that logic 1 step further...why play rugby at all? it's not an American sport. AND only Jews should dance the Horah, Irish do the Riverdance, Latinos dance the salsa, and on and on.

Unfortunately in the US, I think the Haka has become associated with rugby, and not with New Zealand rugby. Traditions are great, but we need to start creating some of our own rugby traditions, not borrowing them from others. I guess in HS it's fine (my HS fight song was the U of Michigan fight song, so "creative copying" is nothing new to HS teams.) But still, let the kids come up with something on their own. It will mean more to them if it's "theirs".

I think people are getting all mixed up. I think in the U.S. people love to see the haka... when it's actually performed by native citizens from countries that perform it, not American teams. There are even college football teams doing it, and it just takes away from the meaning. The general American public doesn't know what it means. If a team from NZ or Fiji performed, I think that's amazing, I'm not culturally intolerant whatsoever. I just think it would be better for the actual citizens or 'blood' related peoples to perform it. It's not American and it feels overused.

I think it's GREAT. What's wrong with getting players pshyched and juices flowing from crowd? I would think many in crowd never saw Haka before, which adds to intrigue and entertainment value. Those against..lighten up.

I am from the islands, and my dad is from England.. i played most of my rugby in the USA.. and i love and respect when someone honors me with their HAKA.. sorry that there are SO many closed minded.. and UN-accepting people .. AND yes if someone RIVERDANCED me before or after a game, and they did it out of respect and honor.. i would accept it the same as i do the haka.. and thank them afterward

The haka may have a lot of meaning in the islands, but it is obvious here in the USA it is just another "look at me" stunt in a YouTube and Twitter world. We are in the USA and here we play the national anthem and then it is time for the kick-off, first pitch, tip off, face off, etc. Keep the theatrics in professional wrestling.

After we played Belmont Shores, they beat us, we all came together for pictures then in that moment and in tribute to their win we suggested that they perform the haka for us..they did and then we from Florida presented our version and the boys from Belmont were all smiles from ear to ear. They also could be seen mouthing the words as our boys gave the chant, It was an honor and fun. Afterwards it looked like a family reunion. The sportsmanship was awesome and the game was fierce. It is what rugby is all about. Everyone should experience that feeling and challenge once while they play the game. Cheers to all celebrating a culture& having fun

Any culture should be respected and their traditions. It is part of our sport. Not only did United present the Haka to our boys before play our boys stood their ground and used it to help motivate themselves. It was a thrill for our boys to accept the challenge. One should learn the meaning so one would always pay homage to the tradition.

I understand the haka and its importance. I also respect the haka. I also understand Coach Puriri from United is Moari and both Highland and United have kiwi recruits...but this is America, why do the haka at all? It's become cliche with no importance here. Leave it to the islands, it's their culture and should be respected and honored there. It's not the same and getting old and frankly, quite annoying... just play rugby.
