Agree that clubs need to look at their own efforts before complaining about USA Rugby. Cal and BYU have built their own programs without USA Rugby help and everyone else needs to do the same. Too many Clubs are run on the cheap without enough staff and reflect poorly on the game.

Now more seriously, in reading many of the comments below, I wonder how many people are actually taking action to improve things on a personal and/or local level instead of resorting to the same old complaining about USA Rugby. *Question: If you believe USA Rugby is itself worthless, sluggish and misguided to some degree, then what makes you think it is going to suddenly change of its own accord? **Hint: IF USA Rugby needs help to improve, THEN ... yup ... the answer is YOU help USA Rugby yourself! I'm not talking about money here; rather, I'm talking about time, service and sacrifice. These are the real investments that yield lasting dividends ... The only tragedy here concerning USA Rugby is not their unwillingness to provide ... but their hesitancy to ask and receive. We need to give to see Rugby grow, whether or not we directly receive in return ...

Correct! I've actually had a couple friends comment on the fact. For whatever reason, Almighty Cal never seemed to bring more than a couple thousand to the Finals at Stanford in past years ... and even then, it seemed like most of those were players' Moms or Dads ... scolding me for inciting raucous BYU cheering and interrupting their private assembly! Heh heh, guilty as charged! ;)

this was the 3rd time that Utah has hosted the u-19\HS championships. The first time however USARFU took the initiative to host here. Sadly there was no communication til 2 weeks before the tournament from USARFU to Utah Unions to help with things. The previous years we had over 5000 to the U-19 and HS portions. Had USARFU chosen to include Utah Rugby earlier and treated us as a partner I am confident we could have sold out Rio Tinto for weekend (thats over 20,000 peeps). LOST OPPOTUNITY!

USA Rugby didn't do crap for promoting the CPD and other National Championship games, yet USA Rugby gets all the money brought in? How is that fair? Give some of the money brought in to those teams that played. Give some help and money to those teams that had to travel. I hope to see the CPD run it themselves next year and break away from USA Rugby. When is USA Rugby going to get it?

NOr Cal does have some great teams, but it has nothing in the U19. And the U19 is where the best competition is as far as U20 rugby. The U19 is what feeds BYU and Utah around here. Who in the CPD ARE top teams. And Rugby in the 801 draws the crowds.. So i think it probably is a true statement that UTAH is the hotbed as of right now. Not trying to argue.. just is what it is

United Rugby, I agree. IMHO... I think discontinuing HS/U19/D1/SuperLeague/Women's D1 College/CPD/D1 College. would be a mistake. I think USAR needs to focus on 2-3 of these for the short term and execute a plan to make them profitable and stand alone. I think USAR should support the others but not focus on them. I think D2/D3 mens/college/etc. should not be a focus at all for USAR and let the TUs manage those. Just a few ideas... stupid ideas i'm sure :)

True... but baseball had minor leagues (which could be compared to college). Hockey started in college and branched to professional... But point well taken. Net Net USAR needs to decide what it wants to focus on and get it to a point where its financially profitable for all parties involved and then move up or down the stack.
