Rugby is violent. If violence isn't your "cup of tea", you ought to consider joining a golf gallery! European, South African, Southern Hemisphere rugby all smash each other, US rugby is the only country that plays finess rugby. That's why we will never catch up to the rest of the rugby world or even compete!

"Rugbyfan101 - Northern California play is tough and high quality, but I didn't see this as a good example..." "The Lions lowered their shoulders at every opportunity to deliver heavy hits... Punishment was the goal, but it was not administered within the rules." "The photos also show a Lion lifting a player's hips above parallel and slamming him to the ground." "These tactics made this an extremely dangerous game, in part because the referee failed to take control." I disagree. This was a good old fashioned grudge match, both sides gave each other some nasty looks and words. This was THE game of the weekend. The ref was in control from start to finish. As for the rest of your comments, this game looked like 'TV rugby.' There were some "armless" tackles on missed tackles, but nothing like you describe. As for the picture, the O-club player came in fast and high, was hit at the waist with momentum carrying him over.

Good old hard hitting game. Northern California should be proud to have 2 of its teams in the round of 8. The referee did fine managing the game, especially for how intense it was. Both teams took big shots at each other with Sacrramento getting the upper hand. Their Hooker hits like a Machine and probably left a bunch of Olympic players wondering what hit them. Both Teams way to represent your Club.

Rugby is an extremely physical sport. Big tackles are a natural part of the game. Both teams drilled into each other as any League rivals would have done at this point in the Season. The referee had 3 other set of eyes on the field (2 Touch Judges and an evaluator) who all felt that the physicality of the game were within the bounds of the law. The naturemof the game is extremely physical, so if you do not appreciate the toughness perhaps find another game to cheer on.

Northern California play is tough and high quality, but I didn't see this as a good example--it had some of the worst qualities of football, including taunting. The Lions lowered their shoulders at every opportunity to deliver heavy hits, foregoing any pretext of wrapping up the OC backs. Punishment was the goal, but it was not administered within the rules. The photos also show a Lion lifting a player's hips above parallel and slamming him to the ground. These tactics made this an extremely dangerous game, in part because the referee failed to take control. The league needs to make clear to referees, coaches and players, that this style of play is not permitted, before someone is seriously injured.

This was perhaps the most physical game of the weekend. Sacramento consistently made OC's midfield attackers pay for running down the middle. Soand Fotofili and Dennis Saafi led the charge on defense. OC however was a little bit more technical and therefore won on the scoreboard. Good game, way to represent Northern California.
