My deal is not what the rules are. Apparently it is OK by the rules to CIPP a new foreign player days before the playoff. the united new player arrived May 3 and played in the playoffs 3 days later. i assume may 3 cuz thats his cipp date. its just so hypocritical because united has had so much to say about other teams foreign players.

I received a telephone call tonight asking me about this article and the trail of comments. I don't read many message boards as we are focused on getting ready for nationals. I haven't read every comment here, but I think I get the drift of things. It has been my privilege to coach Highland for 36 years. This year, 2011, is also my last. I am officially retiring from coaching after nationals this weekend. I was asked in the phone call what I thought about the United foreign player issue. Not that it will matter, but here are my thoughts. I have no issue with United. They are a good team. To the best of my knowledge there is no hard CIPP enrollment date for U19 play with respect to the PCRFU playoffs. Therefore, United has broken no rules, so why not give this issue a rest. If you don't like the rules, then change them; but it is wrong to criticize any one if they play by whatever the rules are. 36 years of coaching have taught me that it is easier to be critical than to be correct.

I think the issue is sportmanship and NOT whether any rule was broken. Clearly no rule was broken. I think what people are trying to say is that United is being hyprocritical. They have for years harped on HR for foreign players. Even some years asking HR to not play with their foreigns on the field when they have played United. Clint, this is not an attack on you, the coaches, players or the United Club. Just an observation that suddenly its okay to have foreign born players, when for years United has criticized HR (and only HR) for the same practice. Just an observation.

That's fine. I'm done. I know the history, and I guess that's all that matters. I agree, both teams have great kids and dedicated coaches and we can leave it there. I honestly do wish every team-United,Highland , and everyone else, the best in nationals.
