Not so Fast: You are correct, the tournaments pay the NRU a small fee for hosting a qualifier. That small amount of money goes to the NRU 7's select sides. I like your idea of doing away with TU bids, but then you bring more politics into the process. Who decides what tournaments are worth what points? Who determines the regional splits? With the new GU alignment coming in September, its moot anayways. CA: The NRU cant just go out and demand teams host tournaments nor does the NRU have the money to fund a full summer of 7's tournaments when our 15's competitive seasons begin in September. The money is simply not there.

Make the Big tourneys like Cape Fear worth extra points (ala Hong Kong 7s in the IRB). Heck, Even create some new Double point tournaments in major air hub cities to lessen costs and encourage more cross regional matches or just scrap the Championships and make a national series ala the IRB

Expense for the TU? Teams pay the NRU a $250 fee to host the tournament and up until the last couple of years were lucky if a NRU rep was even present, let alone in an official capacity. And as far as one bracket, sure, take more money out of the host clubs pockets when the social sides stop showing after being pasted by triple digits in a 14 minute game. I am sure the qualifier sides would benefit from such stern competition. Teams serious about qualifying need to play other top teams, and I do agree that they need to play more tournaments. My suggestion would be to get rid of bids to TU's and set up a qualifying system based on regional tournaments to gain points. It would be nice to see old blue and NYAC play the marfu sides at Lehigh Valley for points instead of each other 4 times in the NRU. more ...

Agree with ruggerBB. Would rather see more tourneys too. What about June 11 and 25? The expense for the TU is the championship. Free them of that expense, and give the teams more tournaments to play in that count. To Tourney organizers... please get rid of all the tiers of competitions; Qualifier Club Competitive Club Open Club Social Just have 1 competition. When you get to the Cup, Plate, Bowl, Shield rounds, the social teams will fall into the Bowl/Shield and the Premier teams will rise to the Cup, with everyone else in the Plate. These 5-6 team qualifiers with the same 5-6 teams competing each week doesn't really provide anything worth watching. Just have for both men and women; Club College U19

There's a 'Championship Series' but only the last tournament is the 'Championships?' Shouldn't this be like the World Series, accruing points throughout the series?
