Buddy, when you're in a hole – best to stop digging. The article said he steamrolled players as a jr player. But your assertion was that because he's an islander that – necessarily – this is the pattern of play to which they're somehow genetically predisposed. (Ever heard of coaching?) Not done anything? Tuilevuka has a dozen caps; selected to US 7s camps; took his club to the RSL nat' champs and; works (I believe) for Serevi Rugby developing the US collegiate rugby academy with the NZ national coach. (I'm sure whatever beer league you're in is doing more.) Last I checked, Thretton was still playing college football. Please hold. Nothing in the article endorsed a "Neandrathal" style of rugby. Nothing about Tuilevuka's game is "Neandrathal" - which you would know if your rugby depth was more than youtube 'biggest hit' highlights. But feel free to insult him too, 'cause Polys are "all like that," right? For the record, I haven't even started going negative on you.

DCM - Your first response was articulate and well written but then you went negative. I agree that I would love to have a 6'4" 250 lb center on my club as well, but my whole point is that the article specifically stated this kid from America is the next big thing because he runs over guys. I remember when Pate Tuilevaka(?) was the next big thing at 12 and Thretton Palamo was the next big thing at 13 because they crushed people, but they have done nothing with that style to truely help American rugby. I have many Poly friends and other friends of various ethnic backgrounds and my point has nothing to do with being a bigot. Jamie Roberts is a big bruising 12 for Wales, but he plays with skill. Wilkinson and Yannick Jauzon are both 12's because they play physical but smart skilled rugby. As a rugby nation we need to get rid of our Neandrathal preference for big hits and being aggressive to play smart, expansive, ball control rugby. I meant no disrespect and truely hope the kid the best!

Greg, the article is about American players playing top level Rugby in Europe. There was no mention of them playing for the Eagles and there was no reason for you to go on a redneck rant, except for the fact that you are a redneck.

Nearly all of our players are "found wanting" against "good international players." (Have you watched the US scrum for the past two years?) Sione isn't a "US-eligible Islander," he's an American kid, from a California high school, who HAPPENS to be brown. He was a 4-star Div 1 college prospect who struggled with grades. With those athletic credentials you'd probably be drooling if he had a Irish surname! But because his name has more vowels than ticks on a bigot, he's somehow destined to play unstructured rugby? You owe that kid an apology for assuming that somehow, because of his heritage he's not the type of player we're looking for.

Can we please stop trotting out polynesian players at every chance as a USA national team? While devastating on the local club scene as beasts against usually average rugby players they are all found wanting against GOOD international players. There is a reason Tonga, Fiji, and to a lesser extent Samoa barely if ever crack the top 10 of the IRB. Their style of trying to overpower everyone is not success. One or two in the forwards for physicality is one thing, but the US eligible Islanders are not Alessani/Manu Tuilangi or Tana Umaga in the backs. We need to find non-poly players that are not afraid to hit these beasts and can play skilled rugby at the same time...
