Your pat on the back comment is absurd. To knock anyone who volunteers their time to help the game is low class. No one ever agrees with you on here, is it possible that you are just wrong? These teams are doing what they feel is in their best interest, and we should trust them to do that. Comment back all you want, done ever worrying about what you think.

By the way, in the real world , I've coached men's and youth rugby for 6 years and served on our SBRO board. I understand what it's like to be a coach, administrator, fund raiser, uniform washer, and groundskeeper. However, that isn't what we're talking about. We're talking about ranking several of the best teams in college rugby in the second teir competition and were talking about Lindenwood, a club that has played its way up from DII to D1-AA and possibly into D1-A. People can not like my opinion but where are the thoughts about improving the situation?

Four and six are big mumbers to you? Lindenwood is playing their way up through the levels of competition as its intended. Cal, BYU and Utah and the other VC teams are playing down a level in order to play for the Varsity Cup. They are ranked here since they are playing at D1-AA but the other teams are competing for a championship at D1-AA. All that patting yourself on the back will wreck your shoulder in the long run. If you have a solution to the issue then let's hear it.

Dave, you must really like self abuse - I have never seen a reader with so many red thumbs down. In the real world, college coaches like myself, take action by working thousands of hours a year to coach, recruit, fund raise, and work with our universities. Walk a mile in the shoes of one of these volunteers and you might have a better understanding of how college rugby really works. Most colleges are trying to get rid of men's sports, not add them. Our university just cancelled men's soccer and baseball. We are fortunate to get some funding and access to fields.

DStone: There's a big difference between teams crying about another team taking actions to improve itself, and beating them in the process, and very successful teams voluntarily leaving the top level of competition to beat up on teams in the next level below. DII and D1-AA teams should all be trying to improve themselves and move up to the next level of competition. I hope that USA Rugby will implement some method to ensure that teams are playing at appropriate levels. The idea of leaving it all open to choice does not seem to be working very well.

Lindenwood should not have to compete with any of them for the D1-AA National Championship - this is the same argument that many D2 coaches made last year about having to play Lindenwood. Hard to feel sorry for a program with so many advantages.

I'd like to see Lindenwood in D1-A for 2014. I didn't know that they are scheduled to play Life and Arkansas State in 2013. That's great! Lindenwood is stepping up and that's respectable.

Lindenwood lost to Davenport by 4 at a neutral site this fall. Davenport beat Dartmouth (Varsity Cup) by 17 in the final four and shellacked San Diego State (DI-A) 38-0 in the final this spring. Just an opinion here, but my money would be on Lindenwood to win the ARC, Big Ten and Rugby East conferences of DI-A. They would probably win the California Conference, too. If they didn't, they'd finish second. We'll find out more in the spring, when Lindenwood plays Arkansas State and Life.

Pat, it's all just opinions until it's proven on the pitch. I disagree with Lindenwood being better than the vast majority of D1-A teams. That's why USAR has the D1-A and D1-AA divisions so the best can rise to D1-A and compete with the best. Clearly, Cal, BYU, Navy, Utah, etc... do not belong in D1-AA and Lindenwood should not have to compete with any of them for the D1-AA National Championship. They should be playing true D1-AA competition. If Lindenwood moves up to D1-A for the 2014 season, then we can see how they do. I think they are ready to compete with the best too. Hopefully, this V.C. nonsense will be a one season mistake.
