Ah, the little things like a tournament name change would be a good start for clarifying what is buried in the USA letter to HOA. Suggest: Rocky Mountain HIGH SCHOOL Challenge.

If I was the SoCal Under 17 fly half this year, but next year i will be a college freshman, does this mean I cannot be on my 19s all star team next year. I'm still technically under 18s for next years tournament, but will be in my freshman year of college. where does that put players like me in my position?

It sure looks like the rules were clear. Well done HOA. However it appears that the rules were clearly not communicated or enforced effectively. Sigh. For elite development (i.e., this event) I will quote John Wooden who coached a few winning teams, "It's the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen." Well, I hope the HOA boys had a nice weekend of competition, development and camaraderie.

[ Directly from USA Rugby to the HOA team Just to clarify, the main difference from last year is that we are restricting these tournaments to High School players. College freshmen are no longer allowed to play. Students must be enrolled for the 2011/2012 school year and follow the age restrictions Age Date/Requirements For Varsity Rugby (previously U19): Junior and Senior players Cannot turn 19 before September 1, 2011. (born on or after September 1, 1992) Must be enrolled in High School for the 2011/12 school year. For Junior Varsity (previously U17): Freshmen and Sophomore players Cannot turn 17 before September 1, 2011. (born on or after September 1, 1994) Must be enrolled in High school for the 2011/12 school year Inspiring America to fall in love with Rugby Katie Flaherty | HP Administrator | USA Rugby

SCAL U17: Well done boys. SCAL U19: Close games; good effort fellas. @Kowalski: Eligibility comment reads poorly. USAR U19 Eligibility rules are posted on its website and you have internet access. Looks like HOA consented to play, had a good weekend but lost in the Final. The End.

Cogratulations to the HOA team who only had players who were in High School or just graduated from High School. Most of the other teams including Minnesota had several freshman in College playing in the Championship. They did not break the rules but the rules were not clearly stated before the tournamet.
