@FranH, I didn't say we'd be winning the games if he were here. I said I blame the fact that most of the pack was playing out of position on his not being there. Secondly nobody in Northampton would know his name had he not played that one match for the Eagles so I disagree with your assessment that he doesn't owe it to the Eagles to turn up for his national team. His motives are his own; fine. I just don't think one should bite the hand that feeds it. He wasn't contractually allowed by the Saints to play during the RWC but now nobody knows what his excuse is.

Folks need to get over the fact that Manoa ain't there whatever that might be, the Eagle problems are NOT because 1 man isn't available. A single man will not make or break a team, 4 or 5 will. Manoa has 1 cap for the Eagles, against Georgia in Nov. 2010. Since then the US has played 12 matches (excluding this June), 4 were at RWC, so for 8 matches SM was not on the pitch; was he on squad, bench, was he available, was he not chosen? Maybe he has some personal reason outside of pre-RWC contract or injury to not play for USA. Just because it has been determined that the dude is a stud why should he give a rats hind-end about playing for the USA? I would put my family and career before some some self serving dysfunctional bass-ackwards organization that couldn't give 2 cents about the best interest of its unpaid employees. The sport is a now a business.

Cont'd: Overall I wouldn't rate it too bad for a first game under a new coach w/ a lot of new blood in the mix. Our #5 was good other than a shabby low pass which could have sent Clever over for a try in the first half. I also would've liked to have seen the BYU rookie scrum half make his debut but understood fully why Petri was left in w/ it being so close. I look forward to continued improvement from our boys going forward and again await the return of Ngwenya and Manoa.

I was at this game and it was pretty sloppy on both sides. Our wing not only didn't get it into touch but the Canadian 8man ran right past/over him on his way to the game winner. I think that should refute the notion expressed on this site that Ngwenya will have any trouble getting his jersey back; pretty foolish really. Our pack was all out of position w/ Stanfill and Lavalla needing to trade positions and Clever at 8man was solid but we all know he's an open-side. I blame the pack conundrum on Manoa as he'd clearly be our 8 if he'd made himself available. That said Canada was missing Cudmore and Sinclair. Our scrum was weak and failed to dominate when Canada's open-side was in the sin-bin. Both teams missed a penalty kick but our conversion and some poor tackling was the difference in Canada's favor. I was impressed w/ our rookie fly-half and frankly am glad it wasn't Malifa. I applaud his kicking from hand which is where the USA is behind the rest of the world.

I guess that match wasn't a team effort? I am sure they weren't the only ones who made mistakes. Maybe if Davies (and others) saw some playing time, the 3 point loss would be a different story.
