I agree though we should be thankful NBC is giving coverage to rugby. It's funny how much bitching there was that none of the networks would touch rugby. NBC turn up, and all rugby fans stateside can do is bitch some more! As for the poster proposing dropping day one from TV. Are you out of your mind? Rugby still hardly gets any network airtime and you want to decrease what it already has?!! I do agree though that the depth wasn't as good this year. Last year's quarters for example were tight with one exception. This year we kinda knew who the top 4 would be pretty easily. If Utah, CWU etc had been back in the QFs could've been hot. A weaker Army didn't help either. I'd like to see say 3 or 4 teams from the popular LV event and 12-13 invited so you still get big schools but also other top ones not invited.

Sigh. The content of my post had more to do with no regular season or series of 7s tournaments than teams having an equal shot at the "title" as you claim they do. Dartmouth was/is fantastic and probably tops in 7s...though maybe Cal wins in a series...anyway one weekend of play with nearly nothing leading up to it is silly for a national title. I was responding to an earlier poster who said the level of play for some teams was low. Wouldn't a series of tournaments leading to a championship raise the level of play?

What an amazing event. I attended every major collegiate 7s event in the past two years. The overall level of play is improving remarkably fast. From nationals to the LVI to the CRC the game is evolving quickly. The college teams out there better stay on notice -- keep improving or you will get left behind!

@cantwin Life got steamrolled in the semis, and the three teams you mention as being more exciting were the other three semi finalist. Its great that NBC is givin rugby such wonderful exposure. But, this event is watched by rugby fans, not NC state alums that couldn't be bothered to go to a game when they were in school. NBC will get better every year with the tourney, and part of that is having teams play their way in and getting the best teams there (minus BYU).

Yeah, agreed. They bill it as a national championship, but there is no regular season or series of 7s tournaments. How do u crown a 7s national champion from one weekend of play where most teams are by invite and don't play their way in? Every team in the country had the chance to play their way in. Life managed to and still got steamrolled. Quit complaining that a bunch of schools no one cares about didn't get invited. I don't understand people whining that NBC is the only major network to broadcast what has become the biggest US rugby event each year and then complain that they actually want to provide a consumer friendly product. The people claiming that inviting more schools that Life beat are just proving their ignorance. Life played some of the poorest 7s at the CRC. Their structure was exactly like 15s. Cal, Arizona, and Dartmouth all played far more exciting 7s.

iunderstand my english it;s not the greatest . im not even from usa or live here i just happen to watch american rugby and follow it's fast and great growing stats . usa rugby has improve so much . i think that tiberio is a good player but not up to international standards . i think i am very familiar with rugby since i started at 5 years old . i am from argentina im sure you know where that is located and it's rugby roots . im also sure you know who the pumas are too ? 4 nations ? so it's easy to see that they where better players than him on this particular tournament. didn't try to hurt anyone's feeling but the truth is american rugby will not improve if they keep picking friends over quality . for example number 5 for dartmouth .. great talent ! number 1 for life cam dolan . great skills and ball handling field vision . tiberio is good just not that good. and as far as going to school i should pick up a book and learn a fourth language . you instead rugby.

What was Jarvis binned for? For a former 7's captain to not cover the game better was pretty bad. Perhaps he didn't have much latitude with what he could talk about. Interviewing Tiberio as he was standing next to Jarvis in the tunnel was terrible. Stop dumbing the coverage down.

I thought it was disrespectful of the interviewer and Tiberio to have that small interview as both teams were lined up side by side in the tunnel. To grant a pregame interview and comment on the game right in the face of your opponents is unprofessional in my opinion. I know that there were no negative intentions behind it but it kind of made Tiberio out to be some golden boy and came off as a slap in the face of the Dartmouth team. Tiberio simply should have declined to comment and asked the interviewer to let him focus on the game ahead. Dartmouth once again showed that they are the premier collegiate 7s team in the nation but Tiberio got all the spotlight. Again, just my two cents.
