Blah Blah Blah Caravelli. Blah Blah Blah Maglesby. Blah Blah Blah Player X, Y or Z. The Eagles 7s program WILL NOT IMPROVE noticeably unless enough money is plowed into the program to enable them to field 2 competitive sides showing at several respectable tournaments globally ex IRB stops. You cannot win tournaments unless you play enough of them. Going from cold (A few All star games, maybe 1 or 2 ho hum tournaments) to Hot (IRB stops)will not work. Any decent coach would see a vast improvement if a better infrastructure appeared. A minimum of 24 players (12 Eagles, 12 feeder players) need to be seeing good International 7s action before the US 7s program should start being judged. How about holding USA Rugbys feet to the fire for more funds or quit, not Knee jerking to every IRB stop.

@rugbyfan Regarding Al C. I've met with him and seen him operate/coach/manage and I can tell you his personality is anything but stale. He did a tremendous job in positioning the USA 7's as a core team and improving their standing and recognition internationally . Player development and overall approach and professionalism within the program under his leadership have been outstanding. Many players and coaches have benefited on and off the field from his input and I believe at this point it is simply unfair and unnecessary to continue to criticise him. You also cite his lack of originality, his approach has been cutting edge adapting many techniques seen on the the 7's circut being utilized by the most successful programs. He remains highly respected amongst his peers and former players on the circut. I wish Mags and the entire program success and improvement as we all stand to gain from possitve results but make no excuses, he has a big set of shoes to fill.

SM7s-15s, So you agree with me it was time for him to go. P.S. All coaches make sacrifices and have to deal with adversity its how they handle them that make them successful. Unfortunately Caravelli was not successful in dealing with adversity of what a USA coach has to deal with. We deserve results not excuse. We can no longer wear our country’s rugby “hang-ups” like a badge of courage. (We have two jobs, I’m not a professional rugby player; I play over seas and any or other excuse you want to through in)

Rugby Fan, Caravelli did a great job with the program. Why don't you try holding down 2 fulltime jobs. The players that followed his direction are all overseas pros or very successful in what they are doing. He instilled hard work. He built the program. No one before him took the team to a cup final with a whole new team. The year before to a cup semi. If it wasn't for a [censored, don't use this word] call they would have been in the final. Don't thrash the guy if you don't know him or have you ever spoken to him.

I think, uplander, there are multiple problems with your post. First off, judging Magleby, while keeping the terms of Caravelli's departure in mind, is slightly ridiculous. If you believe that Caravelli "was not let go," then I think your worldview is a bit too rosy to be realistic.

Don't kid yourself Caravelli was sacked and he deserved it. With his stale personality and lack or originality to the 7's program. I can't believe he lasted this long. the decision was long over due.Listen folks there is more than money involved in 7's now. USA Olympic community does not want to support a non wining program so Caravelli had to go. I'm surprised he wasn't let go the day Rugby got the nod to go into the Olympics. Give Mags a full year and see whose who. If he doesn't pan out bring in a high profile funny talker
