We have too many teams (25) in the premier competition D1-A. We need to create a 10 team Champions League. Take the top two teams from last year’s D1-A (BYU, Utah, Life, Arkansas St, St Mary’s, UCLA, Army, Penn St) add D1-AA Champ Davenport and Cal and you have a very competitive 10 team league. Split the group into two five team conferences and have them play everyone in their conference both home and away so they each team gets 4 home fixtures and 4 away fixtures. The league would use Super15 scoring and the two conference winners would play for the National Championship. Each year the D1 champion would be promoted and a team would be relegated from the Champions League. D1 could build on the conference format to develop fan interest but the Champions League would provide the level of competition needed to develop players to compete in Tier 1 international rugby.

Is it me, or has USA Rugby taken the weekend off? No scores, No nothing...how do you grow a sport when you can't complete the simplest of tasks, emailing or texting or updating your site from the venues across the playoff sites. This is part of building a Brand Image or Product. College and High School can do better. Finally one of the best run tournaments in the US is the Minnesota High School Hockey Championships... "www.mnhockeyhub.com" Updates by the minute, scores and photos, quick articles and incredible action thruout the week. I'll actually leave my real name this time.
Scholarships, Are you suggesting that giving scholarships to many already gifted players can be off-set by an extra practice a week. An OSU has some of the best varsity facilities in the country, except rugby I believe, is a club sport and has to ask permission from the ADept. If you had a job, how would like to be paid ? By an employer or by passing a hat at alumni events ? Davenport, bless them, has seen what it takes to compete with the well- funded and responsed appopropiately for success. OSU and Davenport rugby are apples and oranges. Do you think ASU's policy of in-state tution for SouthAfricans helps them ? They bring in ten Boks that have 1000's of practices in their past and the answer to matching this is an extra practice. Remember; when someone says it isn't about money, it's .......

Garryowen, the scholarship and funded programs excuses from you is getting old. Wisconsin held their own vs Davenport just because they took rugby serious this year. You don’t hear Dartmouth complaining, Ivy League school and they might just beat Davenport. Why? Because they train 5 days a week and take all aspect of the game serious. Have you seen OSU facilities and compared it to Davenport’s. Davenport doesn’t even have a field they play on a soccer/Lacrosse pitch. And just one last thing OSU coaches do get paid, might not be from the school but from Alumni, they also get more the $3000 from the club sport department……

Garryowen- Ohio State 60,000 Students Davenport 3000 Students Ohio State Rugby Alumni - Dating back from 1970 Davenport Rugby Alumni – None OSU – Following NCAA rule and regulations for Rugby players –NO Davenport – Following NCAA rules and regulations for rugby players - YES Davenport $250,000.00 Where do you get this? Please post the link as I am sure many will want to know In what Bracket will Davenport play if moving D1-A. Wisconsin, IU, BGSU all can play in that league but they don't want to. As far I know they want to move up and play but traveling to 3 games per bus that’s 24 hours doesn’t make any sense. What type of season will it be if you only play 3 different college schools? Won't surprise me if they do join the Div1-A league as all the Midwest teams complain about training more than 2 days a week. You don't see Dartmouth coaches and players complaining about anything. They just get the job done and train 5 days a week

Exciting for who? The Women's games on the whole were awful and not worthy of putting on TV. I'm sorry, but Women's rugby as a spectator sport cannot be put on TV. I should think my minus count will be at least 50 by night fall!

Private schools have more say on where their money goes...Look at the D1 final 4...BYU (Private), St. Marys (Private), Life (Chiro, semi-Private), Ark. St. (Public/State) I thought that the State schools showed very well in the D1AA matches....kudos to both Whitewater and U of WI in their matches vs Davenport + Lindenwood. Also this further points out the weakness in trying to push the DI football = D1 rugby approach to collegiate rugby.

Not in this economy, most colleges have to divvy out money to many club sports, so sponsorship(s) and reducing the cost of upper management are 2 realistic actions. Nothing wrong with multiple Sponsors...i.e. National Guard, a bank who is interested in securing or consolidating student loans, Insurance Co, Major Corporations looking for specific Majors that may have missed talent by not visiting every College, Grad schools, that first car and so own.
