Good article. People seem to be making too much emphasis in following (or not following) the football conference path when setting the rugby conferences. I think regional conferences are best for short and long-term development because these are STUDENT-athletes that cannot afford (time or money) to travel across the country every week to play better competition). Following football conference model (such as SEC) is a great model for regional play, but does not have to be the exact blue-print. This is NOT NCAA, we can do whatever we like. Why, then, should Missouri be entitled to leave HoA and join SEC for rugby? Why cant Life and Ark State join the Rugby SEC? Football conferences make great models, be we in rugby also have the freedom to improvise.

Nice article, sad story. Interesting that our administrators of Higher Education have lost their moral compass? Or judgement at least. Sports were originally about competition, team work, learning and good sportsmanship(O ld English). Now they are saying without any apologies....it is about money first...I thought it was about education first? I am certain they will argue that more money will help them educate more.....Very Disappointing. Glad to see the rugby players are still in it for the right reason. Maybe not being Varsity has shielded them from the corruption of the funding.
