Sadly, Rugby Fan is right. Rugby fans want to see the best teams compete. We want to see our game sold by showing the average sports fan what it is we do best, not by the name of the school. NBC and the organizers of the CRC don't agree. All we can do is hope that the CRC lives up to its name over time, and that the decision-makers give American sports fans credit for being able to discern quality from junk. Let's also hope they begin to run the event as the professional competition they're marketing it as, not a glorified bake sale/car wash with kids left home if they can't sell enough tickets for the organizers.

Just remember the show is run by NBC, they need to sell this on TV. No one outside of rugby even knows anything about Life or Davenport. Do these teams + Kutztown, CWU and Utah deserve to be there? Yes they do, and most people will say so as well. The story floating around Vegas was that Utah didn't sell any of the 300 tickets they were supposed to sell. How many times will this question be asked?….. It’s to promote the game and it will only get promoted with names people can relate to(ND, OSU, Penn, Cal, Florida, Oklahoma). Maybe next year there will be 2 spots open instead of 1. Give Dan Lyle and the CRC time and credit for what they have done so far, it will get to the point where the 5 or 6 best teams in the country will be invited. Just so you all know Cal got rid of more than their 300 tickets. That’s the reason Temple is still in it as they had a massive crowd on both days

Yep, the fix is in. Maybe Cal can back it up now that Utah's not there to knock them out. If there are going to be invites, why not take the top 4 teams from last year (because Cal wouldn't make it??), or the last 2 years? Either that, or no invitees and everyone has to play for a spot. What a disservice this is to sportsmanship and fair play

I totally agree w/ corrupt re: money & politics. CWU came in 2nd last year totally unexpected and did well in Houston- why is Cal invited when they haven't proven themselves at all this season (as well as Florida/ Okla) Come on guys allow the teams play accordingly, not just because of their "name" / $$

The sad thing is that Central Washington, Utah and Life are premiere rugby clubs this country. I KNOW Life can compete with the likes of Cal.... In fact I would say that Life is probably the favorite in the tournament. Since USA rugby has their name attached to this tournament they should require at least 4 of the teams competing be selected in a tournament format.

Can anyone explain to me how Utah and Life have to earn their way to the CRC ( and Utah be left out) and teams like Florida and Oklahoma can be automatic bids? Especially Utah after finishing 1st and 3rd the last two years how can you leave them out of the CRC? I smell money and politics - someone doesn't want Cal to be knocked out for the third year in a row. I'd bet a whole lot of money that if Thretton Palamo said he would play they might mysteriouly get a bid.
