I'm of the position that I hope those who believe in the youth movement invest accordingly; those who believe in cross overs work toward that aim; NBC keeps doing what their doing and hopefully we'll have several streams of new players and hopefully a on air forum for all these players.

Left out, we all know that's why NBC promotes BCS schools over better Rugby schools. They want to the Boosters to catch the fever...these fellas have money to burn and instead of buying hookers and sports cars for special teams players they could use that money to build up their alma mater's TV bragging rights on NBC TV in that "Rugby stuff"

G-Maul...Rugby and Rugby Admins in general ARE AFRAID of college and pro football. Why? Because college boosters to a lesser extend but mainly the NFL could take over the sport completely if they fell in love with it (for less than an average starting linebacker per city)...Look at what NBC did just by dipping their toe in the water; Cal doesn't want to play our reindeer games anymore and being good at Rugby is less important than being a BCS type program, with a Rugby Team. You know who would love the NFL to take over American Rugby? The IRB!!! They would sell out USA Rugby faster than USA Rugby has sold out Club Rugby for College 7s. I'm loving it!

How does one market a relatively unknown product to American consumers? Use a high profile campaign to appeal to their emotions. When USA Basketball could no longer "dial in" an Olympic medal every 4 years, the Olympic Committee and the NBA came up with the "Dream Team"The level of play@ the world escalated and the NBA rode a PR wave that was unprecendented. What would happen if the NFL thought of putting together a pool of 20-30 players to learn this 7s' thing that shows up every 4 years.Picture the slo-mo, sepia toned tales of the origins of their game on a May afternoon.Gold medals instead of medallions around players necks. Each NFL team has programs to encourage local youth football and physical fitness. Sound familiar? Haloti Ngata leading Rookie Rugby to Baltimore youth?Does USARFU have the chutzpuh to broker a mutually beneficial partnership? If you're gonna dream, might as well be big

Good point. You know there is a rugby friendly billionaire who owns an NBA team in Texas. NBC is already dedicated to rugby, so games could probably get national coverage on at least Universal Sports. The sooner, the better...

“I think there’s a market for it, but not 15s. I would pay $25 to come to a 7s tournament, but you couldn’t pay me $25 to sit through a 15s game.” this coming from a man that runs an indoor soccer team. ROFLMAO MISL died years agon and it took several years before the MSL got going and many still don't sell out even 50% of their stadiums. Also, ever sat thru a baseball or basketball game? Americans like contact sports whether it be 15's or 7's. the latter will gain some fame due to the Olympics but 2 questions arise: will it be an every 4 year fascination like pretty much all other olympic sports? and how do build a brand running sporting tournaments? better one might be how do you interest fans in multiple 7's tournaments? 7's might be easier to get going professionally but 15's is where the potential revenue lies...or is the rest of the world going about it wrong?

Start small... 8 city-branded teams at each tournament and see where it goes from there. The format is easy. Two pools of 4 teams each play round robin on Day 1. Then all 8 teams are seeded into the same single elimination bracket for Day 2. None of this bowl, shield, or plate nonsense. Clean and to the point. Keeping with the "starting small" theme, start with four tournaments the first year and build upon it. Use two guaranteed locations that you know will pull fans (one West Coast, one East Coast) and use the other two events to test various markets. Unfortunately, without financial backing or TV exposure, it will be a hard sale. This can be done, but it is going to take someone willing to lose some cash up front to get the ball rolling. I'm not sure people like that exist anymore, so here's to hoping Pat wins the lottery.

Its very cheap to get 13 people to 7 away games, do u think 99% of girls volleyball teams make money? no, they get $ frm football. After a while you'd make enough money in that one tournament to cover the away games if it picks up like it should. do you think the current college teams getting money from the school make money or lose money by investing in the rugby team? lose and yet they still do it. They know eventually rugby will pick up

From a marketing point of view, the Northeast (i.e., Boston & NY) have the playing, fan and overall population numbers to support two teams - one in Boston and one in NYC. The traditional/historic club set up (NYAC/Old Blue, Boston/BIRFC/Mystic) would need to go and have a "Boston" team and a "New York" team. If you want to reach beyond the small rugby die-hard market, you need a broad appeal - and nobody cares about "Old Blue", but could care about "New York".
