LoL just because you have played in an unorganized league with a ref that couldn't control the game and players that didn't reflect the nature of the game which is that this is a hooligan sport played by gentlemen, doesn't mean that all poly's play with that tenacity. We, the Utah Warriors are a class act, we don't talk, we don't fight, we let our game tell the story! Sika's addition to us brings a level of respect, gratitude and commitment to the boys that we needed last year. Watch and learn, just cause u are afraid of playing poly's doesn't mean we are all dirty. We are aggressive, we hit hard, we run hard, we swarm the breakdown, we are committed to punish every team that walks on the field with us.... Just as we expect from the other team, they better being everything they have to bang in the trenches! Enough talk about race, this is about the growth of rugby, the addition of Salesi, the direction of the warriors and whether we are capable of the greatness that is a Natn'l Champ.

Utah definitely has the talent pool right here. The great thing is that a lot of the Polynesians here don't have much to do due to lack of skills and education, so a lot of welfare programs are aimed at getting young, promising poly youth off the street and into the rugby clubs, which is great. Utah Warriors are proud to be the home to many such fine young athletes. They work very hard despite all their disabilities, even learning to read enough English for our playbook. I'm glad that I can help support this cause even though our budget is microscopic this year. If all these polys start to really shine, we might truly be able to stay in existence for a few more years, no doubt. Well said to all.

Manley, too rough or too dangerous comment. The last 3 games I played against islander teams I have seen 2 red cards and 2 yellow cards given. I have been stomped often and punched in the head requiring 8 stitches. I have been tackled by the face more times than I can count. It is a fact, not a racist complaint. You as a coach need to teach what acceptable behavior on the field is. If you allow a swinging one arm tackle, sooner or later it will go too high and hurt someone. I LOVE rugby for the physicality of the sport, tackling, rucks, mauls, and the sense of community afterwards. That is why I still play after 25 years. All I do when I play a mostly islander team is worry about getting my head taken off, getting stomped, or punched. It is the job of the coach to set the attitude of the team and discipline those who do not live up to those standards. I hope Sika does that with the Warriors. I want to read about/watch/play in an islander game where a fight is never mentioned.

Well said Alex. Some of the best players in the world are of island heritage. I believe a great player with good knowledge of the game and the right leadership anility can be a good coach. Salesi Sika possesses amazing talent on the field, a great rugby mind, and players respect him. No doubt he will be a great coach for the Utah Warriors.

There is a lot of loyalty within the Polynesian community. Players are usually particularly loyal to Polynesian coaches, thus teams becoming dominated by Polynesian players. What I find the most irritating is the incessant complaining I hear about how Polynesian players play the game: "too rough" or "dangerous." Even when complementing a Polynesian player, people say how "instinctual" or "natural" they are, never "smart." It is this kind of racist thought/commentary that push Polynesians to stick together. I agree that more Polynesian coaches would help rugby in the USA.
