I disagree with the notion that the team's fitness was lacking. I simply think the selections weren't that strong. This team wasn't cut out to perform very well the minute they arrived in Australia and it's because there's some players here who shouldn't be. That being said, there's really no excuse for some of the elementary errors that this team made. Kickoffs going straight out, missed tackles, passes not going to hand, and dropped balls are inexcusable. And if you're going to mess up at least look like you're trying hard and support the few instances where the team made line breaks...

just using the national 7's team data on usarugby (it's not complete)...the US 7's team has a record of 49-86 (and maybe one tie?) since 2008. again, not all info is provided on every tourney. so how long has the US had the same coach? i understand it takes time to develop a game plan, players, etc but 3-4 years of status quo and losing record? or is just that we are staying the same an everyone else including Russia, Japan, Kenya, etc are getting better? to many questions so we can only look at a hard number: wins vs losses and its not good

Sporadic signs of collective cohesiveness however fitness was terrible on many of the breakdowns....too slow getting there. Too much individual effort and no real team meshing to play this game as a team. Too many missed opportunities with support available on the ends and getting the ball outside. Absolutely terrible defensively in the middle due to fitness levels. Need to understand teamwork or we'll lose all the way around on these legs of the IRB tour.

The coach shouldn't be giving the guys the decision to pull themselves out if they're tired. If they look tired, as the coach, he should be making the decision to pull them out and put fresh legs in.

When you have a man like Waisale Serevi living in the States, you think you would tap him to help, and maybe USA has approached and he is not interested. I have always felt the Al's selection has been suspect. I think he makes safe choices and doesn't take any risks. His players, don't either. Let's face it though, USA Rugby isn't going to can Al because they don't have the grapes for it. USAR loves safe people and safe decisions. Stick with the status quo and the USA mired in mediocrity.

THis is getting old....every 7's article you read about our sides the past year or so is apologetic it seems - Shoulda / coulda / woulda., mistakes abound. Face it......we are going backwards! We should save the $.

USA Rugby 7's need players who can play to what is in front of them. Maybe throw away the coach's play book, the coach, or both, or simply select players with rugby intelligence who can perform basic attacking and defensive skills at speed and under pressure?

Palefaus and Niuas fitness especially were problematic. Not sure Mile can offer much in the centers at this stage. If you're going to be lazy around the fringes, you've gotta have the pace to back it up and chase guys down. Test was solid as usual. But if he's your best impact player you're in trouble against the better teams. Edwards is a very good player. Seen him rip it up over here when given quality ball. He can get lazy And disinterested when the service is poor though so you've gotta keep feeding him the ball. I'd like to see him stepping in off the wing on occasion and working a bit more off te ball. Other than that there's plenty of room for improvement but there will need to be changes as this side seems to be moving laterally year after year
